This book is a strange yet intriguing story that begins a saga of an immortal vampire born during the time of Christ. This is an odd juxtaposition of characters whose moral compasses are sometimes at cross purposes. The book is the first of a series that chronicles the 2000 years of the life of Jacob, the vampire. Jacob begins his life in an orphanage, where he develops his morality through being bullied and seeking revenge, ultimately becoming a natural protector. However, due to his nature, he is also a murderer and a thief. The early interactions between Jacob and Josh(Christ) illustrate the complexities of their identities and friendship. This is a dark, unique fantasy and will appeal to both readers of historical fiction and horror story.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the story quickly pulled me in. The ancient setting gives the vampire theme a fresh and mysterious feeling, and the mood is intense without being confusing. It’s easy to follow and keeps you curious about what will happen next. A great start to a dark fantasy series.

Goodreads Review, Jan 21, 2026.
Genesis of a Vampire is one of those rare books that feels both daring and deeply human. From its opening pages, it pulls you into a harsh, dust filled world where survival is fragile and morality is anything but simple. This is not a glamorous vampire tale, it’s raw, tragic, and profoundly moving.
Jacob is an extraordinary protagonist. Frail, abandoned, and cruelly mistreated, he feels achingly real. The slow revelation of his dark hunger is handled with incredible care, making his struggle feel less like a supernatural gimmick and more like a curse rooted in fear, shame, and loneliness. Every time Jacob feeds, you feel the weight of the choice and the cost.
The relationship between Jacob and the young Jesus of Nazareth is written with surprising subtlety and respect. Rather than preaching, it explores conscience, compassion, and restraint through quiet moments and hard questions. These scenes elevate the novel beyond genre fiction and turn it into a thoughtful exploration of good, evil, and free will.
The historical setting is vivid and immersive. First-century Judea feels dangerous, oppressive, and alive, and the violence within the orphanage is genuinely unsettling not for shock value, but because it forces Jacob into choices no child should have to make. The line between innocence and monstrosity blurs in ways that linger long after you close the book.
What truly makes this novel stand out is its emotional depth. This isn’t just the birth of a vampire it’s the birth of an immortal conscience. Knowing that Jacob’s journey will stretch across centuries only adds to the tragic weight of his beginnings.
Dark, atmospheric, morally complex, and beautifully written, Genesis of a Vampire is a powerful start to what promises to be an epic and haunting series. I finished it thinking about Jacob’s choices, his hunger, and his humanity long after the final page. An easy five stars, and a must read for fans of thoughtful, character driven dark fantasy.

I bought this book because it is the beginning of a series, and I love vampire books. I was not disappointed. The book does a great job showing the tragic events that twist one soul into something immortal, transforming feelings rather than just supernatural. I liked the way the author blended ancient history, hidden secrets, and moral conflict. It made me want more. It’s dark, thought-provoking, and sets up a series I definitely want to continue.
A Vampire Story That Actually Feels Fresh! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book grabbed me from the first chapter and wouldn't let go! The concept of a vampire who's been around since literal Biblical times is so fascinating. I love how Jacob starts as this sickly orphan in Nazareth (those conversations with teenage Jesus are wild) and then we follow him through major historical events as he pulls strings behind the scenes.
What makes this different from other vampire stories is how deeply it explores the moral struggles. Jacob isn't just some perfect, brooding hottie - he's genuinely conflicted about his nature and what he becomes. The historical details feel well-researched too, not just window dressing.
I devoured this in two days and immediately bought the sequel. If you're looking for a vampire series with actual depth and a unique premise, this is it. So glad I found this gem!
